Amnesty International and Sofar Sounds to host concerts in support of refugees

September 19, 2017 by Tom Bailey Leave a Comment

On 20 September 2017 Amnesty International and Sofar Sounds will be holding more than 300 concerts around the world for Give a Home, in which 1,000 artists will perform intimate shows in people’s homes in support of refugee rights.

Major artists including Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sandé, Hot Chip, Jesse & Joy, Laura Mvula, Ludovico Einaudi, The National, and more will feature on the line-up. Joining them will be refugee bands from around the world, including the Orchestra of Syrian Musicians who are set to perform in London, and Canadian-Somali pop duo Faarrowwho will play in Los Angeles.

The concerts will span over 24 hours and 60 countries, starting with shows in New Zealand at 07:30 GMT on Wednesday 20 September, and ending in the early hours of Thursday 21 September with a show in Seattle, USA.

The shows are in support of Amnesty International’s I Welcome refugee campaign, which mobilizes public pressure on governments to welcome refugees.

“Give a Home is about celebrating what people can do and are doing in support of refugees. Where governments are building walls, deploying warships and closing doors, we are singing a different song: We welcome refugees,” said Salil Shetty, Secretary General of Amnesty International.

Please see here for a full run of the shows, including the names of the artists, which city they will play and times for the shows.
