Theatre Bubble have their ear to the ground once more, as we learn of the exciting activities going on in Docklands. It’s all happening over there. A place where imagination and ideas still flourish, as talented and diverse performers seek to entertain, provoke and reflect on the society that can both raise us up or crush us down.
There is multi-talented creative team behind THE ARCHITECT alongside Matthew Xia, are winning playwrights Roy Williams, Mojisola Adebayo and Bola Agbaje, who is an immersive sound designer. Also on board are new emerging writers (XANA, Dexter Flanders and Vanessa Macauley) who are all being. With this line of talent why wouldn’t we want to see it?
This unique production can be seen in Docklands. Its bold, creative and allows us to look back and think again about the Stephen Lawrence case and it gives us a chance to get on board with this current and ongoing hot topic.
THE ARCHITECT commemorates the 30th anniversary year of the racist murder of Stephen
Lawrence by bringing together a collective of prolific Black theatre-makers to explore and celebrate Black lives and the dreams that accompany them – whilst imagining the blueprint of what a future city could and should be.
In support of the Stephen Lawrence Day Foundation, this immersive theatrical performance
aboard a London double-decker bus, takes passengers on a ride like no other through South East London to Woolwich’s General Gordon Square. Along the way they will encounter storytelling characters, steel pan musicians and runners from Stephen’s athletics club – the Cambridge Harriers. The audience, or should I say passengers, will alight in General Gordon Square where the culmination of the performance will be THE ARCHITECT’S DREAM, a free standalone event, providing a collective moment for audiences – how cool is that?
And then the wider community get time to look forward in hope and to create the future we all want. A safer and more equal future.
Docklands is buzzing now with creative spaces and imaginative projects so get over there and join in the fun and start dreaming of better things to come for us all!
