Shows on the Rise at VAULT Festival 2018: Great Again: The Musical by Old Sole Theatre

January 8, 2018 by Tom Bailey Leave a Comment

The VAULT Festival is coming to town! From January 24th to March 18th, over three hundred new shows explode across a festival of festivals in their Waterloo home. With new venues, new bars, new food and plenty of surprises, VAULT 2018 is the biggest, fairest platform in London for artists to present innovative, daring work. Here we catch up with Old Sole Theatre to have a chat about their musical about friendship, voting and Donald J Trump.
In the past few years of politics, perhaps the most bizarre event has been the rise to power of Donald J. Trump to become the 45th President of the United States. Over the past 14 months we have sat back and watched his first year in office with anger, with horror, with confusion. Our new musical, Great Again, aims to figure out why and how it came to be; by looking at the stories of the people who voted for him. We chose the musical theatre format to tell these stories in an accessible, fun, empathetic and entertaining way. The narrative follows our two young protagonists, Kelsey, an outspoken and opinionated conservative, and Josh, a lonely and shy gay conservative, as they join the campaign trail, meeting other supporters as well as opposing protesters and becoming fierce friends. We are hoping that their journey allows our audience to go along for the ride, and experience the opposing side of a story we have witnessed unfold across the pond.

We are very excited as a team to be bringing the premier of our new musical to VAULT Festival. Individual members of our team have taken shows there before – our writer, Isla van Tricht, has had two previous sell-out successes at VAULT Festival with The Litterati and Underground, the latter of which transferred to the Brits Off-Broadway Festival in New York, and Old Sole Theatre Company produced sell-out Testament at VAULT Festival 2017, receiving ‘Pick of the Week’. However, we all can’t wait to return with this brilliant new musical.

Great Again: The Musical is running from the 24th-28th of January at 18:00 at the VAULT Theatre in Waterloo. Tickets and more information can be found here.
