£1,000 Commission for New Show

March 1, 2013 by Alexander Parsonage

Mimetic 2012

Mimetic 2013 is a celebration of emerging international mime, puppetry and cabaret. Founded in 2012 by Finger in the Pie Theatre Company – in its first year Mimetic showcased over 20 performances from around the world including UK premieres and new work commissioned especially for the festival.

As part of this year’s Mimetic (July 12 to 27), Finger in the Pie are offering an exciting opportunity to an individual or company to develop a new piece of work, with financial support, rehearsal space and mentoring from core company members.

This commission includes:

– £1000 contribution to the production budget
– A performance slot at Mimetic 2013, Dugdale Centre in Enfield
– 2 week residency at Millfield Theatre in Enfield in June 2013
– Mentoring from Finger in the Pie

Mimetic is particularly looking to programme a piece that is working within the world of physical theatre, visual storytelling and/or puppetry. We will accept proposals from individuals or existing companies. Work cannot have been performed in full before, but can be at any earlier stage of development.

Applications are now open and must be received by 12pm midday on Monday 25 March. On the evening of Tuesday 9 April short-listed applicants will be invited to meet with the Festival organisers and perform a 10 to 15 minute extract of the work in progress before a public audience. Show’s will need to be available to tech daytime Monday 8th or Tuesday 9th April. The final piece will then be selected from the work we see on the night.

TO APPLY

Applications can be made via words, images, audio, video or any combination of these. Please try to be as concise as you can – aim for max of one side of text or 2mins of video/audio or 4 A4 sides of images. Don’t feel the need to be ‘creative’ for its own sake in your application – just communicate what your show is going to be about however you find it easiest. We’ve introduced alternatives to writing as we hate having to write about our shows – so imagine lots of other people are probably in the same place. So just tell us what your show will be like in the most clear and concise application you can.

However you choose to tell us about your piece I’m afraid you can’t get away from writing completely. Please register your interest using the form below:

Please email your application to mimetic-commission@fingerinthepie.com – we can accept attachments up to 5mb. Alternatively and for larger video or audio files please send us a link to You Tube / Vimeo etc.

If you have any questions, please email Laura and Alex at the email above.

For more information about Mimetic and the work of Finger in the Pie visit http://www.fingerinthepie.com.

Thank you for your application. We will respond shortly following the application deadline to let you know if you have been short-listed.
