Victor Oshin is currently playing his stage debut, the title character in English Touring Theatre’s production of Othello. We caught up with him to find out how he’s feeling about the tour.
How are you feeling about your first major role?
I’m feeling excited about this role and opportunity to experience different parts of the country. It’s a dream role which I hope to revisit in the future. It’s a beautiful production with an amazing cast and this project means a lot to a lot of people.
What is it about this Othello that you think speaks to 2018?
This Othello speaks to anyone in 2018 who has felt oppressed or ostracized because of their differences, be it race, disability, sex, background, sexual orientation and felt they couldn’t speak about their injustice. So may feel they have to hide a part of themselves to navigate freely and without duress. 2018 is a year where more and more people are kneeling and protesting about these injustices so there is no more silence or hiding. This Othello says a lot within that conversation and others.
How are you feeling about touring all over the country? Anywhere you’re particularly looking forward to?
I’m really looking forward to touring and travelling the country seeing parts of I thought I would never ever see. Can’t wait to see what Huddersfield has to offer and some of the beautiful countryside and coast. It will be a welcomed change to London.
Othello is on at various venues from now until 24th November. See the ETT website for more information and to book tickets.
