Theatr Clwyd opens applications for Writer in Residence scheme for Welh language writers

February 23, 2018 by Tom Bailey Leave a Comment

This year, Theatr Clwyd renew their collaboration with Paines Plough to co-produce the Roundabout Season. As part of Theatr Clwyd’s TYFU programme and their commitment to becoming a home for writers in Wales, they are inviting three Welsh language writers to work alongside the Roundabout company. Each writer will develop a 10-minute script that will be performed in the Roundabout when the season opens at Theatr Clwyd.

The residency begins with 3 days in London as rehearsals for the Roundabout Season commence, where the writers will meet the acting company, creative team and writers, and experience the first days of work on new scripts.

The writers will then be invited to Theatr Clwyd to observe rehearsals in the Roundabout itself and have time in the main building to start script development in a supportive environment, surrounded by other creators. The residency concludes with the writers having time to work with a welsh director and 3 actors, further developing and rehearsing, finishing with a celebration of the new writing in the Roundabout on Saturday 30 June

The Theatr Clwyd Roundabout Welsh Residency offers a bursary to cover travel, subsistence and expenses and an additional fee of £500.

Applications are now open. To apply, please email: a CV of both your work as a writer and/or other employment, training and education; a brief description of where you currently are as a writer; a brief description of why you would like to be involved in this project; two pages of a script that you’ve written in the Welsh language; and confirmation of your availability for all dates listed to nerys.edwards@theatrclwyd.com by 5pm on Friday 23 March. All applicants will be notified in due course.
