Francesca Moody appointed Executive Producer at curious directive

January 2, 2018 by Tom Bailey Leave a Comment

curious directive is delighted to announce the appointment of Francesca Moody as the company’s new Executive Producer.  Francesca will take up the newly created position in February and this follows the company’s successful recognition in June as a national portfolio organisation.

Francesca will continue to build on the company’s success working alongside Artistic Director and founder Jack Lowe in creating bold, innovative theatre that bridges the gap between science and art.  She will bring her expertise of developing new and existing partnerships across the touring sector, as well as growing the company’s touring programme in creating ambitious and ground-breaking new work.

Francesca is currently the Producer at Paines Plough, a role she has held since January 2016 and was previously their Assistant Producer. Prior to joining Paines Plough Francesca worked as a freelance Producer with companies including DryWrite and Look left Look Right.

In 2013 she produced the original stage production of Fleabag by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, which was awarded a Fringe First and nominated for an Oliver.  Whilst working at Paines Plough she has continued to produce Fleabag in runs at the Soho Theatre, on tour in the UK and internationally.  Other freelance credits include SPINE (Soho Theatre/UK tour: Fringe First and Herald Angel), Gardening for the Unfulfilled and Alienated (Undeb/Pleasance: Fringe First), HOME (SEArED/Arcola), WHERE THE WHITE STOPS (Antler/Underbelly), MYDIDAE (DryWrite/Soho Theatre/Trafalgar Studios), YOU ONCE SAID YES (LLLR/Roundhouse/LIFT Festival/Lowry), and BRIMSTONE AND TREACLE (SEArED/Arcola).

Francesca Moody said ‘I am thrilled to be joining curious directive and working alongside Jack to realise the company’s ambitions at this hugely exciting time. curious directive’s shows are astonishingly imaginative and inquisitive, they explore complex subjects through the prism of human experience and bring new ideas and technologies into a theatrical context. With Jack, I look forward to cementing curious directive’s position as a local company of national significance and inspiring audiences across the UK and internationally’

Jack Lowe, Artistic Director of curious directive said ‘Francesca has a passion for delivering ambitious, boundary-pushing work. Her previous work challenges, invigorates and surprises. She has developed a thoughtful, incisive philosophy working with Paines Plough. Her vision for curious directive is stunning and as we take on the mantle of joining the small group of new artist-led NPOs, we will grow our offer of new theatre inspired by science in Norwich, the UK and internationally.’

Leanne Cosby, Interim Chair of curious directive Board (Theatre Producer, Barbican Centre) said ‘We’re delighted to welcome Francesca to curious directive. Jack has worked tirelessly since 2008 to build curious directive, a devising company with a strong mission to explore ‘life through the lens of science’. We’re looking forward to working with Francesca and Jack to shape and realise their vision for the company.’

During 2018 curious directive will continue to tour Frogman, their acclaimed and dazzling, coming-of-age thriller told through 360 film in virtual reality.  Further dates to be announced shortly.
