Beginners often see reality TV auditions as stepping stones to bigger dreams. It does not matter to casting directors if you are new or experienced in the business. They do not look for any big achievements either. All they are looking for is a person with great personality to make their show interesting.
Trends in television shows took a different turn because of reality shows. Because of this shift, people were begging for more reality shows. They just loved to see the conflict between cast members and how they torment each other throughout the season. They also longed to see more drama in other people’s lives.
Since they are in demand these days, production companies are always looking for people they can cast on a new season or a new show. If you want to use reality TV auditions as an entry to stardom, consider these tips on how you can prepare your way to becoming the next reality star:
1.Decide on what shows you’re suited for. Shows can span from singing talent shows to cast members living in the wild. Concepts can be varied and it is important for you to be trying out for the right reality show. There are shows that highlight a special skill like cooking, singing or dancing. If you are aiming for a broader audience, try for shows that do not require specific skills.
2.Discover your uniqueness and personality. Casting directors are always looking for people with strong and unique personalities that will contrast with the other cast members. Distinguish the things that would make you unique from others. Bring out your real personality and your life’s stories to make you interesting to the directors, producers and more importantly to the audience.
3.Make a list of real life experiences. Casting directors do not like people who fake it. Once you have discovered what makes you unique from other people, list these traits down. Also, come up with a list of life experiences and struggles that changed your life. Use these to tell a very interesting story to the casting team.
4.Do your homework. Researching about these shows and their production companies will help you understand the kind of people they are looking for. If they are franchise shows, watch them and try to look for a pattern for the types of people they put on the cast. Use this as leverage and as a basis in formulating answers to their questions during the audition.
5.Plan and practice the things you will say. Most production teams will be asking questions such as: ìWhat are your goals for joining?î, ìWhat makes you unique?î, or ìWhy do you like to be part of the show?î and many more. Answer them honestly, but deliver them in a way that will give them a positive and interesting image of you.
6.Practice speaking in front of the camera. If you have had no experience in speaking in front of the camera, then now is the time that you should practice. You should be comfortable about doing this because you will be dealing with them the whole time. Practicing also allows you to gauge how you talk to the camera, how you enunciate your words and the tone of your voice.
7.Prepare your performance. For shows like American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, The X Factor, or The Voice, you need to be ready with your material. The same thing goes for cooking shows or design shows ñ you need to be ready with something that will highlight your talent and skills.
8.Prepare your video applications. Some reality shows would ask you to submit video applications. Record a video that will show them what it is like to be living your life. They would not care whether you shot it at the best locations or not. All they will care about is your story, your life, your work, your family, and your home.
9.Always monitor casting calls and updates for reality shows. Most of these production companies blast out their announcements through their own website, the network’s website and other third-party websites. Keep tabs on these websites to know first-hand if the shows you have been eyeing are starting to look for people to cast.
10. Be ready for competition and stand out. Because reality TV shows are looking for a variety of personalities, almost everyone would want to be a part of them. That is why you need to condition yourself for casting calls and when you get your turn, be memorable. You do not need to play outrageous tricks or acts. Be yourself and show them how you are able to attract people’s attention and that you have an interesting story to tell.
Reality shows have made celebrities out of many people who only used to dream about becoming the next top model, or the next top chef. These people took the opportunity and pushed themselves to outshine other people on the show. You, too, can get to the celebrity status that they are enjoying by starting out with determination and readiness for the Reality TV auditions that may come your way.
